Michelle Leslie was on 60 Minutes tonight (Sunday night). After all what happened to her I feel a little sorry for her. Simply a case of being at the wrong place at the wrong time and with the wrong crowd. It can happen to anyone. If you're not familiar with the story, Michelle Leslie is was a model based in Sydney, Australia. She was modelling overseas and had stopped over in Bali for a bit of fun after modelling work. At a road block she gets busted with two ecstasy pills. Then follows three months of court battles, talk about bribes and media harassment... etc...
As a result of the whole affair she hasn't been getting any modelling jobs and is considering switching careers. The program doesn't elaborate on which career though. As to wearing the burqua - it was simply a "protective measure" so she won't get abused by the prison guards and be hustled by the media. As for being a Muslim - she isn't one. She says that she lived with a Muslim family for three years and she found the Muslim values "beautiful" and she has this wacky idea that living with a family with a certain set of religious values would just rub off on her...
All in all... just unlucky I guess. Oh and one other thing - Don't use drugs! Especially when you're a tourist and in a country that has really strong laws against drugs and have a death penalty. Countries such as Philippines (They have a warning on their boarding pass in bold red), Singapore (Remember Van Nguyen?) etc...
Update: Or... she was just unbelievably stupid. Have a read of Jack Marx's Opinion. The author Jack Marx was also sued by Michelle when he worked for a magazine... he recalls:
Some years ago, while working at a magazine some might describe as "satirical" (and I do), I was assigned to write an extended caption around a photo of a model who had been photographed at a launch for Nokia mobile phones. The model was effectively nude in public, her 'clothes' consisting of mere bodypaint, and so I wrote that, when the model's mobile phone rang out, the crowd gasped in anticipation as to where she might be keeping the device and from whence she would retrieve it.
