Before you sell your used computer or laptop - scrub your hard drive clean to preserve your private information. "Bank details, pornographic pictures and credit card numbers were just a few of the tidbits found on hard drives of second-hand computers offloaded by Australians this year, according to a new study."
How to clean your hard drive:
:: Deleting files or reformatting are not effective methods for wiping a hard drive.
:: Use a commercial erasing tool to overwrite data stored on your hard drive.
:: For extra security, remove the machine's hard drive.
:: If you are recycling your computer, ask the recycling technician to return your hard drive to you before they take the computer.
