To be a Paparazzi or not to be a Paparazzi? It's tough to be one. Because you don't always get the "money shot". Those days are the worst for a photographer. I had one of those days today. Just loitering at the back of a courthouse waiting for a subject that never did appear. My sanity was *close* to breaking. Maybe I should just stick to creative portrait photography. Things are straight forward and move much more quickly.
Updated 4th July 2009: I still remember that day I was paid to be a paparazzi for one day. Laying in wait for my prey all day, for that one moment is not something I'm interested in. If it is - well you should be a paparazzi. I remember watching a documentary about different jobs and one job which was profiled was a Hollywood celebrity paparazzi. He had a black SUV, tinted windows, decked out in the latest TV/DVD equipment which he would watch movies while waiting for that moment where the celebrity gets out of their house and starts doing something interesting. He also displayed his array of long 400mm+ telephoto lenses and boasted selling photos worth up to USD$30,000 a piece. If you love the chase, if you love laying in wait for a long time, if you are patient and like to *possibly* earn a lot of money, being a paparrazzi could be for you.
