Jumper sucks. I actually didn't want to watch this because it got bad reviews. (perhaps that made me more cynical about the plot?) There was nothing else on and so I watched it. What is it with Samuel L. Jackson nowadays? Why does he do all these crappy movies now?
I guess, if you want to sit down and enjoy a movie, Jumper could be entertaining as it raises the possibility of someone actually jumping around the world - being able to teleport from one place to another.
Jumper is trying to be too many things. Is it an action movie or a thriller? Or is it a sci-fi movie? It tries to be all of them at once. And it sucks at all of them. Action is so-so. There is no "thrill" - very predictable plotline. And the sci-fi.... don't even get me started.
Jumper as a sci-fi movie... the movie synopsis says:
"A genetic anomaly allows a young man to teleport himself anywhere. He discovers this gift has existed for centuries and finds himself in a war that has been raging for thousands of years between "Jumpers" and those who have sworn to kill them."
What genetic anomaly? There was no talk about the history and the evolution of Paladins and Jumpers. It was all very vague. The movie only really got the battle between the two sides when the other jumper says: "Welcome to the war"... mentioned about 40 minutes into the movie. (its an 88 minute movie).
And what about that scene in the movie when he reveals to Millie Harris aka Rachel Bilson, the contents of his bag at the airport: heaps of money. People get caught at customs for bringing huge wads of cash through the international airport. It's called money laundering.
