Gordon Ramsay has a Lawsuit - NOT!

Gordon Ramsay has a Lawsuit - NOT! The whole Dillions Restaurant Affair and Australia

FOUL-mouthed foodie Gordon Ramsay has been force-fed a dose of reality by an irate restaurant manager who is suing him.

Martin Hyde, formerly of Dillon's Indian restaurant in New York's Times Square, claims his reputation is in tatters after millions of viewers saw the culinary king call him a "lazy tosser" on Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares USA this month.

Hyde claims he was singled out as a scapegoat for the eatery's problems and as general manager had no responsibility for the kitchen, which was filled with rotten food and infested with cockroaches.

Hyde said he now lived in fear of being recognised as "that loser from the Ramsay kitchen show".

"Being ridiculed by Gordon Ramsay on TV has wrecked my life," he told the Daily Mail. "Gordon completely assassinated my character. My reputation is in tatters and nobody wants to employ me. It's like watching myself getting mugged."

Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares continues to be a big hit for Channel 9 and it is understood the network tried to lure the kitchen curser to next month's Logies.

A jam-packed schedule meant Ramsay had to knock back the offer, but he will be in Sydney for a food and wine fair in June, when he's also tipped to head to Melbourne to look at a potential site for another Crown restaurant.

But F*CK ME, That news is 1 year old!

It's old news. That episode with Gordon Ramsey, Martin Hyde and the saviour Indian chef consultant Vikas Khanna is 1 year old! The New York Observer did a story about that in July 2007! It's now April 2008 as I write this. And guess what? The lawsuit against Gordon Ramsay was thrown out of court.

Bloody Australian TV. Bloody Australian Media. Australian TV is SO behind. Some channels try to keep up to date, but others still force feed old TV shows down our throats. And Australian Media are reporting OLD NEWS. Channel 9 has a hit show on it's hands: "Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares" - they've been rushing through the seasons by showing two episodes a week. They've been marketing the show heavily and creating controversy (#1 marketing tactic) about his bad language. They've featured him on 60 Minutes and A Current Affair. Newspapers and even the government are even in on the marketing scheme by continuing the marketing story about Gordon Ramsay's foul language. Yesterday I stumbled upon a news article from heraldsun.com.au about Gordon Ramsay and his lawsuit. The story was dated: April 23, 2008 12:00am. and the Article said:

if you read carefully, you can understand that the case was actually settled out of court, and not thrown out. I actually think the lawsuit was justified, as much as I think Martin is a weak and useless manager. He got his money out of court, and Gordon will be sued in the future again if he doesn't think twice before he speaks.

I believe Carl E. Person is the same attorney who filed the lawsuit for Martin Hyde, so it's not 'another' law firm looking to go after Ramsay (at least in this case).

Not sure how Anonymous Stranger has determined the case was settled out of court as opposed to thrown out of court...unless it's because the documents state that the case is "dismissed without prejudice and without costs to any party"...maybe if a suit is thrown out, there is prejudice and/or costs towards the plaintiff? Anyway, even if it was settled out of court, that doesn't mean that all of the allegations are true...or false. I haven't seen the Dillon's episode, but I've seen many others, and I've never seen Ramsay behaving abusively close to a manner that the suit describes (now, Hell's Kitchen is another matter altogether). I do wonder whether some of the 'setup' allegations are true, though, because in other episodes things seem to ring far truer...perhaps after this debacle, those involved with the show sat down and decided that things must be handled in a more 'realistic' manner, with some integrity.

Aside from the legal issues, I have to say that the US version gets on my nerves, what with so many people sobbing and seeming pathetic, not to mention the blurring out of mouths speaking any cursewords as though bleeping wasn't enough. I much prefer the UK version, but it is interesting to watch the US shows seeing as how I'm an American. Er...it is making me more leery of eating at restaurants, though! We've heard horror stories for years about what goes on behind the kitchen doors of restaurants here, and the show doesn't make me feel any more secure about them. If Ramsay could go in and humiliate every restaurant into being clean and not serving spoiled food, and not spitting or urinating, etc., into food, I'd offer to take a punch or two from him myself.
