Battlestar Galactica Forums: Mind Frakking FanWanking

Save yourself from Battlestar Galactica forum reading and read a summation of the good points: Mind Frakking FanWanking

After the lead up to the final set of BSG episodes, I've been lurking around some forums and gathering some intel on Battlestar Galactica. I hope I can compile a list of interesting things for BSG fans as a time saver. Trawling forums for great ideas and theories is probably the most time wasting activity, especially when you have to read through junk, repetitive stuff, frakked up stuff and other fanwanking activities. Let’s do a quick research mission on what's being discussed in the forums after the revelations of S4E13 BSG Sometimes a Great Notion = the first episode back in 2009. If you don’t want to read any possible spoilers, please don’t read on.

The Image above is said to be the final scene. Sci-Fi is claimed to say that there is no lines to be said, only music as Number Six walks through what appears to be Times Square, New York City. Draw your own conclusions... is this for real or just a photoshopped promo picture when the cast of Battlestar went and did David Letterman’s Top 10 List.

In the Gateworld Forum, There is an interesting discussion and listing about all the facts known about BSG so far in the story.

Here's what I can remember. Please add to the list. Once the list is completed, then I can come with a theory.

The list includes Razor because that was an important piece of the puzzle

  • The Algae Planet had a temple built for (and possibly by) the final five
  • There was an artifact floating in space with some leftover germs on it. The skinjob cylons were allergic to it (it was fatal to them) but the Colonials were fine. The final five were fine as well.
  • Kobol has a theatre that shows the 12 constellations around Earth (Capricorn, Taurus, etc)
  • When the golden arrow was inserted into the theatre then the light show was activated. This arrow somehow ended up on Caprica. Therefore the theatre on Kobol was built first and the arrow was taken to Caprica (duuuh)
  • the inhabitants of Kobol practised ritual sacrifices. This was noted by Baltar and Six in one of the Kobol episodes. Is this significant? I doubt it.
  • The Colonials created the first generation of Cylon Centurions as slave labourers. They rebelled. This happened 40 years ago. A truce was called and no one heard from the cylons
  • the centurions had a home world. Bill Adama was sent to spy on it.
  • the centurions were experimenting on humans durng the first cylon war. Watch Razor.
  • the centurions created the hybrids used to power their second generation baestars
  • The cylons evolved into skin jobs.
  • the centurions relinquished control to the skin jobs.
  • Seven skin jobs were created. (half of them were used as cheap plot devices, but that's another thread)
  • The Seven were programmed not to even think about the final five. Who did that programming?
  • There are five more cylons (Tigh, Tyrol, Tori etc.)
  • Tigh Killed Ellen. Sucks to be him.
  • The Seven can no longer resurrect.
  • Star Buck went into a Gaseous nebula. Period.
  • Leoben and Kara find what we all presume to be Kara's dead body on Earth. Note: the only 2 facts that back this up are the last few digits of the Viper's numbers and the Thrace dog tag and that the pilot looks like Kara's body. (I'm gonna give this one up though, because it's safe to assume that that's Kara in the cockpit)
  • Kara rejoined the fleet in a brand new viper during a crucial battle
  • There is something special about this viper. When the Colonial Locator signal went off, the Final Five were alerted. It's like they were connected to it somehow.
  • Earth Exists, and was nuked by someone 2000 years ago. This number is significant. When was the temple to the final five built on the algae planet?
  • Everything was in place for the final five to be reborn.
  • the temple on the algae planet was built as a signpost to Earth, but could only be seen when the star (or whatever) exploded.
  • Tyrol remembered his parents talking about the temple on the algae planet BEFORE he knew he was a cylon. This is key.
  • Tyrol was drawn to the temple on the algae planet
  • The Final Five remember living on Earth.
  • Anders played a song on a guitar to the final five while they were living on earth. This indicates that they knew each other. They could have been family, or close friends.
  • Anders was a sports star on Caprica. Clearly the Final Five weren't trying to be quiet and inconspicous.
  • Tigh was in the Colonial Fleet for fourty years and fought in the first cylon war.
  • The Final Five can age. Fourty years ago Saul Tigh and his wife were younger, but would the other three have even been born?
  • The Thirteen tribes left Kobol. Twelve of them went to the twelve colonies on "the great ships" and the thirteenth went to Earth
  • The Thirteenth tribe were cylons -- but of a different type from the skin jobs and the centurions.
  • The Cylon Centurions and Raiders can recognize the Final Five on Sight AFTER they were activated. The skin jobs couldn't recognize them.
  • Leoben is obsessed about Kara Thrace. He sought her out when the cylon civil war started. There is something that he still believes she can do. He doesn't know what it is, and neither does she.
  • Kara drew the same symbol found in the Temple of the Five when she was younger, before the series starts.
  • Kara was compelled to enter the gasesous nebula.

So we have some key settings:
-- the artifact in space (someone please tell me where they found it. Was it before or after the Algae Planet?)
-- the temple on the algae planet which I'm now thinking is a resurrection hub. Someone please watch the episode again because it has important dates in it (temple creation date etc.)
-- The temple has a stage area. If you enter it, you see the Final Five cylons. Your body must be strong to do this, which is why Lucy Lawless had to enter it and not Baltar.
-- Kobol
-- The Colonial Planets
-- Earth
-- The gaseous nebula Star Buck flew into. This is key.
-- The Final Five look exactly the same on Earth when they died, on the temple of the algae planet, and when the series starts up four years ago.
But yet we know they can age - at least, Saul Tigh can age. And Ellen too.

BSG: The 13 Tribes, 12 Tribes Colonial, 13th Tribe Cylon

In "Kobol's Last Gleaming" pt 1, the ruins of Kobol are estimated to be 2000 years old. Here's a quote:
"Billy: Uh, well, we won't know for sure until they send a ground team but the initial estimates have it, uh, on the order of approximately 2,000 years.
Elosha: That's around the time the 13 tribes first left Kobol."

and here's a quote from "The Eye of Jupiter" by Chief Tyrol on the algae planet:
"Chief: Our initial radiocarbon dating suggests that the temple's at least 4,000 years old, which lines up with the exodus of the Thirteenth Tribe. "

Episode 1-10 "The Hand of God", it says that the oracle Pithea wrote the prophecy of humanity's exile 3600 years ago. Here is the quote:
"Elosha: One of the oracles, in the sacred scrolls. 3,600 years ago, Pythia wrote about the exile and the rebirth of a human race. And the lords anointed a leader to guide the caravan of the heavens to their new homeland and unto the leader they gave a vision of serpents, numbering two and ten, as a sign of things to come.
Roslin: Pythia wrote that? "
The questions floating around in my mind are:
Why did anyone leave Kobol in the first place?
Why did the 13th tribe separate from the others and go off in a different direction?
Was the 13th tribe Human, Cylon or some sort of synthetic human created by the humans?
Did the 13th tribe cause the devastation to Earth or did the humans of the 12 tribes decide that they had made a mistake in creating the synthetics and decide to go to Earth and wipe them out?
Did the 12 tribes utilize the same portal as Kara Thrace, to get to Earth and nuke it?
Is there some sort of resurrection facility on/near to Earth that the 12 tribes were unaware of, which allowed all or some of those nuked on Earth to resurrect?
Did Lt. Duella realize that she had also lived on Earth in "Sometimes a Great Notion" and must be a Cylon and is that why she killed herself?
Is it the case that 12 persons of the 13th tribe, who were resurrected somehow, eventually made it to the Cylon homeworld and convinced them to take revenge on the humans by nuking all of their planets? If so, how does the whole "will of god" thing factor in?
Is there a time travel element to explain the prophesies?

Battlestar Galactica Timeline

1) Temple built 4000 years ago.
2) Pithea writes prophecies 3600 years ago. His prophecies have been coming true.
3) Earth nuked 2000 years ago
4) Kobol had structures 2000 years ago
5) First Cylon war 40 years ago (only involving metallic cylons)
6) Second Cylon war 4 years ago (hello skin jobs)

I. Birth of Mankind (4000 to 2000 years ago)
1. Creation of Cylons by mankind
2. War with Cylons
3. Exodus of Cylons to new homeworld (13th tribe)
4. Return and War with the Cylons (13th tribe)
5. Decimation of humans (Kobol)
6. Exodus of remaining humans to new homeworld (12 tribes)
7. Human retribution by the destruction of Cylon homeworld (Earth)

II. Rebirth of Mankind (100 years ago to current)
1. Creation of Cylons by mankind
2. War with Cylons
3. Exodus of Cylons to new homeworld (Cylon/human Armistice)
4. Return and War with the Cylons (Significant 7)
5. Decimation of humans (Colonies)
6. Exodus of remaining humans to new homeworld (12 colonies)
7. Human retribution by the destruction of Cylon homeworld (Unnamed)

And then I think the 12 cylon models were created based on the 12 lords of kobol.

Gods #1-10 have been named according to battlestar wiki:
1. Zeus – Leader/eldest of the Gods - Colonel Tigh
2. Hera – Wife of Zeus - Ellen Tigh
3. Aphrodite – Goddess of Love - Number Six
4. Ares – God of War - Number One / Cavil
5. Apollo – God of hunt/sport - Anders
6. Artemis – Goddess of hunt/sport - Number three
7. Asclepius – God of Science/Healing - Number four/black doctor
8. Athena – Goddess protector of man who killed herself after the 12 tribe’s exodus - Number eight / Athena Agathon
9. Aurora – Goddess of the dawn - Tory Foster
10. Poseidon – God of the sea - Number 2/Leoben ???
11. God #11 (Vulcan/Hephaestus) ??? - Tyrol ???
12. God #12 (Hades) - ??? - Number 5/Doral???

But lastly I was thinking that perhaps Starbuck is also a cylon as the only possible explanation is that she redownloaded... If this is true, than perhaps she is the reincarnation of the 13th lord of kobol that was the one who started the war... They have said that there are 12 lords of kobol (12 colonies as well) but isnt it possible that there was in fact a 13th lord who left the pantheon and is, therefore, the god of the 13th-cylon tribe?

Cylon Model Numbers

Here is an example of a pointless forum post. People are trying to talk about model numbers when Ron Moore has stated that the Final Five don’t have model numbers. People have said that perhaps the writers went a little crazy with the numbering system and skipped the “7”.
Number One: Cavil
Number Two: Leoben
Number Three: D'Anna
Number Four: Simon
Number Five: Aaron
Number Six: Caprica, Natalie, "Head Six"
Number Seven: ?
Number Eight: Sharon
Number Nine: ?
Number Ten: ?
Number Eleven: ?
Number Twelve: ?
