I got published in the Sydney Morning Herald (SMH) last Monday (28/11/05) again following a discussion about Microsoft Word spell checkers:
"Kerri Sackville's discovery that Microsoft Word's spellcheck program insists that "detective novel" is a synonym for "delighted"(Column 8, Friday) brings this from Lyn Scaysbrook, of Bonnet Bay: "After typing out a Christmas recipe for 'prosciutto-wrapped stuffing', my spellcheck wanted me to replace the word 'prosciutto' with 'prostitute'."
Along the same lines is this offering from Marco Palermo, of Bonnyrigg Heights. "Microsoft Word 1997, when you typed 'zzzz' and spellchecked, would suggest 'sex' as an alternative spelling. Unfortunately this doesn't work with newer versions of Word." Sadly, it doesn't work in a lot of bedrooms, either."
This was my third time I got published in the Column 8 section of the SMH - My first submission to Column 8 was:
"A topical anagram for Peter Costello is Top Role Select, suggests Marco Palmero of Bonnyrigg Heights" - This was published late in 2004 and at a time when Peter Costello's ambitions to become the Prime Minister was hitting headlines. It managed to make it to the front page as a small box!
The second inclusion in the Column 8 section of the SMH was when someone noticed an advertisement claiming babies for sale on ebay - and I found another advertisement claiming a "Catholic Church for sale on eBay" ...
