Looking For Work - Job Searching

Being at this age, i should be searching for a job that would "launch my career" and "build foundations" that would help reach "my dream."

So I went out and sought out what answers the internet can deliver me.

A stop at Career One warned me about Job scams that are going around, mostly around the "Self Employment" section of the Job Classifieds.

Well, all this reading made me curious as to what was actually in the "Self Employment" section of my local newpaper - the Fairfield Champion... It's basically filled with ads promising $1000 - $2000 a week "Working from home", work delivering pamphlets, Network marketing schemes and the like.

Hmm, not my first choice of a career path...

Anyhow, I resumed my surfing to visit my Union: Apesma to which I hold a FREE student membership/. So how much does an electrical engineer fetch nowadays? Or any engineer for that matter? Well all your answers about what the market price for an engineer can be found on the page "Know Your Worth".

Looks like graduate engineers fecth a fair price nowadays. Actually, I was told the "additonal income" over the award rate, which in NSW, Australia for Engineers is around $36,000, counts towards overtime that you are expected to pull in during the year. The award rate considers 38 hours of work, whereas the $44K-$49K considers a 45 hour working week.

The thought of working longer made me a little hungry, so I whipped over to another section of the APESMA site which talks about their proprietary "Big Mac Index. Basically APESMA does a study on how many hours you would have to work in a certain country to earn yourself (or afford to buy) a McDonald's Big Mac. An interesting read for those considering to work overseas...

APESMA also offers an online service which creates a CV Curriculum Vitae aka a resume) for you. This form based application thn spits out a CV based on the inputs you provide. It might be useful, heres the link.
