Wow... I never suspected that so many ideas and gags from Family Guy were actually very similar to those from The Simpsons... So I wonder... did Family Guy just rent out a few DVDs of the Simpsons and simply plagiarised their ideas? Have a watch of the following videos:

Stop Watching TV

Who needs TV when you have the Internet?. Steve Pavlina, a personal development specialist suggests people to reduce their tv time and even give it up. He suggests you take a month to record what you are watching, and your expectations of what you want to get out of watching those particular shows.

Most likely, you’ll realize that some shows aren’t worth your time. Their entertainment or educational value is too low for how much time they take to watch.

Marilyn vos Savant (the woman who holds the Guinness record for the highest IQ) suggests that TV reduces your capacity for rational thought. One reason is that TV oversimplifies reality. You’re presented with subjects in a matter of minutes where everything is nicely wrapped up at the end. Reality is reduced to labels like good or bad, funny or serious, smart or dumb. This harms clear thinking by conditioning you to expect that most problems have a simple, clear solution (and if not, then it will be an overly dramatic solution).

Question why you watch all the TV you do. Is it simply a habit? Do you watch TV by default because you haven’t consciously allocated that time to anything else? If TV is your default filler behavior when you have nothing else to do, switch to a different default behavior like reading or talking to actual human beings or hobbies like music or drawing.

Who Needs TV?

Who needs TV when you can pick and choose what you want to watch? I knew about revver before but if it weren't for those blender videos, I wouldn't be surfing around their site. If you're in the mood for sexy music videos you can have it... stupid prank calls its there... Or want to have a laugh at some political parodies just click. How about conspiracy theories? You can even learn how to throw a screwdriver like a ninja!. Anyway, I was surfing around revver and I found a video that quickly compiles a few videos in a clip that's less than three minutes long and is hosted by a nice looking chick called Calle. In the video below I love the bit where the guy plays the Nintendo tune for Super Mario Brothers on his guitar!

Crazy Blender Videos

Its a great marketing ploy. You have a blender company. (It's called BlendTec) You want to slow how strong and durable your blenders are. Web 2.0 and YouTube is getting popular. So you make some crazy blender videos, destroying random objects in your blender. They have tons of videos at their website... too many to watch... they destroy things like a tiki light, glow stick, transformers, diamonds, magnets, barbies... and more! Below are two of their popular movies: The first is a recent one where they destroy one of those recently released iPhones in a blender. The other two videos are of a video camera being blended into plastic dust and then being brought to a shop to be returned.

Funny Prank Calls

Funny Prank Call videos may be immature, and commonly uses stupidity to get a laugh. You have three choices when you receive one of these prank phone calls. First, you can just hang up. Second, you get irritated and you get taken in by the prank callers. Third, you can take the humour route and have fun and run with it.

Video below is a compilation of C-SPAN prank calls. Bad language warning.

Lance Krall makes a prank call to a commercial video director, and pitches an interesting idea for a commercial for a Vietnamese restaurant.

A Youtube video from Brookers making prank call videos. Funny accent humour.

The Simpsons Movie and the Real Springfield

There's been a lot of hype going along with the Simpsons movie. The date they picked was not coincidental. One of the producer's Halloween special nicknames is "July 27th". The hype first started when they announced the movie:

Then the Simpsons camp released a "leaked footage" video, which is a storyboard in action complete with the actors' voices:

Here's The Simpsons Movie first trailer:

And the Simpsons second trailer (complete with a cute dancing bunny):

Thai. Yum.

A Girl's trick from a Thai movie called "the Gig". Hmmm... I wonder what these Thai girls are saying.

Digger or Dig Dug?

For all you digger fans out there you can download it from this page (Digger XP). It has been remastered and it can be played on Windows XP! But if you want the original remastered Dos version you can go here. The website also contains the recordings of the games of the world record holders - a very interesting watch! This game was made back in 1983 but I picked it up much later around 1989 when a lot of games seemed to be swapped around on those 3.5" disks. For some reason my file of Digger was named Dig Dug so I always called it that until I found out just a few months ago that it was actually called Digger. Dig Dug is actually another game but I never played that one. Digger is a simple game - get all the gems and move on to the next level before nobbin or hobbin comes out to get you. Bonus points are awarded for shooting down those aliens or getting the money or even getting the money to squash nobbin (or hobbin).

Overkill Apache

Following my addiction to the internet game Street Fighter II Ryu vs. Sagat I've found another game to waste plenty of precious time: Overkill Apache. The screencap above is my best score yet - reaching the rank of Sergeant Major Army... and I'm retiring from playing... Have fun!

A Newsreader Rejecting Paris

Just watch it as this newsreader rejects the Paris story being the lead story:

Nando's Nude Pole Dancing Advertisement

I would have to say the Nando's nude pole dancing advertisement airing on Free-to-Air TV and cinemas this week has gone viral. It has had TV spots in prime time current affairs TV programs as well as numerous blogs and even a Boycott Nandos page - which I think is a bit of an overreaction. Move with the times buddy! The Advertising Bureau (look under June 2007) dismissed all 200+ complaints and allowed the ad to continue to air. Personally I thought the ad was quite smart and it really did catch my attention. I was watching South Park last Monday when the ad aired. I was wondering what the hell they were selling until I saw the Nando's brand... I do think the company has made a mistake in the style of advertisement... I would not have matched the image and branding of Nando's to such an advertisement. I will continue to eat at Nando's - but only because I like the taste of their food and not for the advertisement.

Finally We Don't Need to Download TV Shows

According to news reports, Channel Seven is going to air both Heroes and Prison Break on the same day as their US screenings. So does that finally mean we don't need to download TV shows from the Internet? It possibly does. It would definitely save internet surfers time (and electricity!). Both TV shows wiil be aired in September and October. Also, Channel Seven is looking to release TiVo in Australia soon. CHANNEL Seven will broadcast two of its cult import dramas, Heroes and Prison Break on the same day as their US screenings in a ploy to lure drifting audiences away from DVDs and the internet.
