Here are a few places I frequent around the UTS area i.e. the Haymarket / Ultimo / Chinatown Area of Sydney. Here are some alternatives to the UTS union food in the tower building cafeteria (you know what I'm talking about - The kebab place, the Union eatery with sandwiches, Indian or Alice's - Chinese).
There is some nice handmade noodle places around the UTS Library in Haymarket. There is also a Japanese restaurant in that vicinity called Yakiniku that is ok. Prices are decent and the food is good. That is on Thomas St. Next to that is a handmade noodle place which is also a thumbs up and another place next to that, which name I can't remember. There is good Thai eatery between UTS library and Central station which I don't remember the name - but if you see orange painted signs - you'll know you are at the right place.
Or you can just resort to KFC (Which I never eat) or Maccas (Which I do eat - I have a discount card where I fork up $2 for a cheeseburger and small chips) on Broadway.
Right in front of Market City (or the Paddys Markets main entrance) in Chinatown is a Japanese restaurant called Kura That offers a nice feed too. Then you have the food court up in Market City. Fast food comes at a price - most of the stuff is OILY. So I have my favourite pick of restaurants there too - namely the Korean place to the back of the food court.
