Just another one of those Column 8 exerpts:
"I had a rather strange experience at Hyde Park in the city today," writes Daniel Innes, of Ryde. "I was approached by a man wearing dirty, worn-out clothes. 'Do you have any money to spare?' he said. 'No, sorry," I replied. 'Oh, that's sad,' he said, 'I'd like to help you'." He then handed me an envelope, written on the front of which were the words 'The Pol Symtas Fund'. I opened the envelope after he left, and inside was $50."
Daniel's story may sound far-fetched, but on the very same day we received this, from Sarah Ying, of Strathfield. "I was sitting at Wynyard station today when a guy asked me if I could give him money. I told him that I only had a few dollars and I needed them for the train. He gave me an envelope and told me not to open it yet. It had 'The Pol Symtas Heroine Fund' written on the front. When I did open it I found it had an unused weekly train ticket in it."
