The Mobile Phone Effect - No Mobile Phone? Be Forever Be a Social Outcast
According to a recent article, people who don't own mobile phones - especially teens and young adults are banished to be social outcasts. "Disconnected from their peers, they risk nothing less than social desolation. The lot of the mobile phoneless is to languish waiting, condemned to a merry-go-round of missed meetings, the mobile tribes having long changed plans and moved on." And of course the academics are on board too wit their research proving that this phenomenon is actually happening. I remember a time where the mobile was a luxury device, now it is a communicaion neccesity. Gotta have it to be "in".
"Getting calls and text messages are status symbols," Marilyn Campbell, from the Queensland University of Technology says. "Ownership of a mobile phone indicates you are socially connected, independent from your family and in demand.
And of course its true. Instead of using the landline phone people use mobiles... instead of teenagers arguing with parents about locking up the home phone, they are free to have their own mobile phone - essentially bypassing their parents. Of course, the next question is "how do they pay for it?" Well, for some lucky one's Mummy and Daddy would pay for it, but for those who want to teach their kiddies a lesson, they have to pay for it themselves. Who wins? The phone companies. The kids, instead of playing, socialising and studying, they are getting jobs. The jobs pay for their luxury items, one being their mobile phone bill.
Money$$ (Kid) = Phone Bill (Telco)
Get Paid$$ (Work) = Money$$ (Kid)
Therefore,
(Work) = (Telco)
Thus, The kid works indirectly for the telecommuncations company.
