I got sent a random email message from Nikon (below) which states that Nikon product prices in Australia are set to rise in February 2009. Also reported by NikonRumours, attached with the email from the Nikon marketing department was an excel spreadsheet reporting the new prices as well as the wholesale price which retailers receive the goods from Nikon. The prices have a general 20-50% markup... Items below $200 seem to have a markup above 25% and lenses and cameras have a general markup between 20-25% or the recommended retail price.
What's shocking about the Australian Nikon price rises is the extent of the increase. For example, you can purchase a Nikon D700 body for $3,375 right now. But in a months time the same camera will be worth $4,799 RRP (or $3,839 ex GST wholesale). There is a similar price increase pattern for many of Nikon's lenses and other camera bodies.
