BSG is back! Battlestar Galactica: Sometimes a Great Notion. What a fantastically written episode. It is thematically dark, but necessary. there was plenty of reveals packed into the episode - probably why they skipped the normal opening credits sequence. Nine episodes to go! If you missed the episode: Watch Battlestar Galactica S04E11 Online
*Caution - SPOILER ALERT* Don't read on unless you've watched the episode or don't mind being "spoiled".
I loved the episode. Well written - considering that when they shot it, the writers strike was on... Reading some blogs and I thought Alan Sepinwall had some interesting comments about the whole thing. When that headshot of Dualla seated in the raptor in the beginning of the episode, I knew something was up. She was either going to be the cylon or be killed. I think the Dualla arc in this episode was great - she died on her own terms, but considering that we have hardly seen her over the past few episodes it didn't seem to 'fit'.
What we found out, what happend in this episode
- The planet they landed on is Earth
- Dualla is not a Cylon, she kills herself
- The Final Five Cylons remember being on that planet 2000 years ago and witnessing the nuclear holocaust
- Kara discovers that the Colonial Tracker she's been following was from her own ship
- Kara finds dead "Kara" and wreckage on Earth
- The 13th tribe is cylon
- Ellen Tigh is the Final Cylon
What Questions Remain in Battlestar Galactica?
- What exactly happened in the 2000 year timeline?
- Will we see Ellen again?
- Did Cavil know that Ellen was a Cylon? (Is that why he took Col. Tigh's eye?)
- Does Starbuck know that all the Cylons have been accoutned for now? If not, she think she's a cylon. But the audience knows better. What the frak is she? What the frak does this harbinger of death mean? Is she another race of "cylon"?
- What does "All this has happened before and will happen again" mean?
- What does Leoben know? What was he expecting starbuck to be?
- Where will Adama lead the colonial and cylon fleet next?

In this BSG episode, Kara asks Leoben why he is suddenly afraid of the truth. Leoben answers: "I've got a feeling. You might not like what you find." If you've watched the classic "The Planet of the Apes", the orangutan scientist Dr. Zaius gives a similar warning to George Taylor (played by Charlton Heston) about searching for the truth. "Don't look for it, Taylor. You may not like what you find." There is also a Star Wars, 'Return of the Jedi' Funeral reference as Kara burns her own body.
