What is the Difference Between a Programmer and a Developer?

What is the difference between a Programmer and a Developer? Both occupations seem similar, so for those of you out there looking for a career in Information Technology (IT) here's the difference...

Stupid Data charges on GPS Phone - Turn Off AGPS Assisted GPS

Don't get want to get data charges from using your Nokia 6110 / GPS Phone? Turn off AGPS (Assisted GPS). If this feature is left on - it allows you to receive a more accurate location. GPS determines your location by communicating with three or more satellites in orbit around the Earth. GPS works great AGPS in relatively clear areas, like the bush or the suburbs, but they are easily confused in city centres where signals bounce off the tall concrete and glass buildings. This is where AGPS steps in: assisted GPS, sends the little bits of GPS signal that it receives to an assistance server on the Internet. In the case of the Nokia 6110, Internet connectivity is via your mobile network, which is where the Internet data charges come in.

Who needs adccurate GPS readings? Don't get those stupid internet data charges on your mobile phone by simply following a few steps to turn off some features:

My Aloe Vera has Black Spots? What Causes This?

I've had an Aloe Vera plant indoors in my office for a while now. But over the last few months it has been developing some black spots. Normally the Aloe Vera plant is a healthy green plant so I thought it may be a disease or something. So I had a talk with my local gardening shop and found out that the black spots is a consequence of too much love. The spots are a result of the plant holding too much water - and the tissues of the plant have burst. I checked the soil and it was damp - especially near the bottom. So I dried out the soil and hopefully my aloe Vera is on the road to recovery. So I guess - less watering for the Aloe Vera from now on. Or only when the soil is super dry.

Woman with Three Tits

WTF - Three Tits!

Here's your random photo for today (not that I do it everyday) hehe. But this one I just had to share. I forget what I was searching for, but when I was browsing Google Images, I found this intriguing photoshopped image on imagevenue (a hosting service for photos). There is no link to whoever made it... When I first looked at the photo, I thought there was nothing wrong with it since I was drawn more to the woman's smile - looking more carefully I saw what a great job of photoshopping they did. Enjoy the woman with three tits.

Battlestar Galactica Forums: Mind Frakking FanWanking

After the lead up to the final set of BSG episodes, I've been lurking around some forums and gathering some intel on Battlestar Galactica. I hope I can compile a list of interesting things for BSG fans as a time saver. Trawling forums for great ideas and theories is probably the most time wasting activity, especially when you have to read through junk, repetitive stuff, frakked up stuff and other fanwanking activities. Let’s do a quick research mission on what's being discussed in the forums after the revelations of S4E13 BSG Sometimes a Great Notion = the first episode back in 2009. If you don’t want to read any possible spoilers, please don’t read on.

The Image above is said to be the final scene. Sci-Fi is claimed to say that there is no lines to be said, only music as Number Six walks through what appears to be Times Square, New York City. Draw your own conclusions... is this for real or just a photoshopped promo picture when the cast of Battlestar went and did David Letterman’s Top 10 List.

In the Gateworld Forum, There is an interesting discussion and listing about all the facts known about BSG so far in the story.

Here's what I can remember. Please add to the list. Once the list is completed, then I can come with a theory.

The Hardest Part of Growing Up is Growing Up

Life gets unknowingly complicated once you get out of high school. High school sucks; cliques run amok, you have to wake up at an ungodly hour just to get forcefed lies, useless information and bad lunch, and you are consumed by pressure. Unfortunately, as much as high school is full of insecurities, it’s the most secure you’ll ever be. It cloaks you from the real world, and as much as teachers and guidance counsellors try to prepare you for it, it doesn’t even remotely come close.

How do you survive growing up? I’ll give you a few tips so that you won’t want to spend every day weeping like a two-year-old over a broken toy.

The first bit of advice I can give you is to be wise with your money. Especially in this economy, living is expensive. You like driving? Your car needs repairs and maintenance. You like food? That costs money too. You like having fun once in a while? That also puts a dent in your wallet. So, don’t over indulge; a Playstation 3 can always wait. Eat at home a lot (it’s way cheaper), don’t buy stuff unless you need it, and if you acquire a credit card, don’t go hog wild. However, don’t entirely deprive yourself either. Once in a while, treat yourself to a good show, or a movie, or some new clothes, but have self-control.

Battlestar Galactica Episode Watching

Battlestar Galactica fans, where should I start watching?

I've heard that Battlestar Galactica is a really good show, good writing, etc. and I'm a fan of sci-fi. I've never watched it before, where would be a good place to start if I want to start renting the episodes on DVD? Do I have to start at season 1? I know the show has been on for years and years and the cast has changed over the years. So I was hoping I could start with one of the newer seasons. Let me know!

The show is rather long and complex (but great!), so there's a lot to watch. Here is everything you should watch, in this order:

1. 2003 Miniseries (3 hour special before Season 1)
2. Season 1
3. Season 2 (this season box set should have six discs)
4. Webisodes: The Resistance (a series of ten 2-3 minute clips that can be found on Youtube)
5. Season 3
6. Webisodes: Razor Flashbacks (I think these can be found on Youtube, but I know that all 7 parts feature on the Razor movie DVD)
